Augie has been working as a perfusionist since 2016, and has been traveling with Vivacity since early 2021. Although the call schedule can be demanding, she loves working with the surgeons and anesthesiologists in the O.R. “The best part about being an autotransfusionist has to be working with the surgical team to ensure minimal blood loss for patients,” Ketera said.

Chris appreciates the autonomy that perfusion allows while still getting to make a difference in patients’ lives. The most challenging part of being a perfusionist for the last 21 years has been dealing with bad outcomes, especially when they are in the pediatric population. “You can’t always control outcomes, but as long as you do your best you can hold your head high.”
